Peques has recently beeen awarded the "Quality Improvement in Learning and Teaching Certificate".
In January 2006 Peques Anglo-Spanish Nursery School joined a quality assurance scheme (QuILT) which is a training programme supported by the government that sets out to improve the quality of childcare and education. This programme has given us an opportunity to reflect and assess the quality of childcare and education based on the National Standards. It has also allowed us to build upon our excellent methods and practices at the same time giving parents, staff and children an even better experience.
Most notably the nursery will promote enhanced, cognitive language, both in English and Spanish, social and emotional development as envisaged by the ‘Early Years Foundation Stage’ curriculum for the younger children and a version of the same curriculum for preschoolers. Completion of the quality assurance scheme will give us the prestigious endorsement of ‘Investors in Children’.
In Peques we feel very proud to be one of the few nurseries in Hammersmith & Fulham Council to have received the 8 of the 9 credits of the QUILT Quality Assurace “Quality Improvement in Learning and Teaching” from the Early Years Foundation Stage. It is an example of how Peques endeavours to achieve the highest levels of childcare and to comply with the Early Years regulations. We are very proud of the comments received in each of the credits we have received:
They all have worked hard to develop their planning and show commitment to the training. The evaluations planning are evidence of how children have enjoyed learning.
Adults are able to spend more time observing children’s play and learning. This is evident in children’s records which shows clear links to the Foundation Stage and Birth to Three Matters.
Children are demonstrating the progress they are making in communication, language and literacy.
The environment is now more stimulating for children and supports the six areas of learning. Utilisation of space has greatly improved and appropriate facilities are provided. All areas are well resourced. We can see that staff has worked hard to make these changes to the environment and staff have greater understanding of how children learn through play.
It is evident that members of staff are developing their awareness of Equal Opportunities. The evidence shows the success criteria have been achieved.
Parents now have more opportunities to be involved in their child’s learning and to share information about their child.
There is now increased awareness of staff development needs. There is evidence that the setting has all the relevant staffing documents. The setting makes a commitment once a year to an early closing for staff training showing now they value staff development.
The received aims make reference to the Early Years Foundation Stage and are included in the policy folder (Peques aims to provide with a safe and secure environment for all children from the age of 3 months to 5 years old). There is a system in place to review this annually. It is good to see all the photos of the curriculum areas in the folder.
All modules are available at the nursery office. Please feel free to ask for them
