Peques Statement

After giving birth to my two daughters, I decided to return to work and look for the best childcare possible for them. I soon discovered that London lacked a good nursery that allowed my children the opportunity to have a bilingual education and to maintain a connection with our Spanish roots. This is how I, Margarita Morro Beltran, was motivated to form Peques in September 1999. My wish was to share my enthusiasm for the important concept of giving every child the opportunity of a warm and loving bilingual English-Spanish education.

I consider that a child’s education is not exclusive to the child’s home or school environment, but that we as parents and teachers unconsciously transmit knowledge through our actions and way of life.

I believe it is vital that teachers value each of their pupils individually, as well as the family environment, starting with their parents. The importance of knowing our place and the role that is expected of us, be that of teachers, parents or children forms the basis for our education and future life.

We, as teachers, must educate our pupils to work and make the most of what they have. Every child brings with them their family values, beliefs and culture, we feel it is crucial to build on this with each individual child enabling them to feel totally accepted and valued.

It is important to acknowledge our own origins, to respect our teachers, the dignity of our pupils and their diverse customs and cultures. Only by looking at our own roots with love can we teach our pupils to create their own path and look towards the future confidently.

"The joy of life comes with the acceptance and pride of our roots."
